CTE, CAS TOP IN CHESS TOURNAMENT

College of Teacher Education (CTE) and College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) claimed the victory in chess tournament yesterday 1pm at Emma Center.
Radson Alcover, CTE, won the gold medal in the chess event with 5 points in men's category. On the other hand, Clisa Mae Flores, CTE, also took the first rank in women's category with a score of 5 and a half points all throughout the game. The tournament started with the promulgation of the rules and regulations of the game, announced by the FIDE Chief Arbiter, Felix Poloyapoy Jr. and the game was also managed by the tournament director, Mr. Sonny Chiu. During the game, they used a Swiss system format subsequent to the FIDE standards with a 60-minute time each round. Although, the officiating officials agreed upon having a 45-minute running time for the final round of the game due to the cultural shows that will be held at the Centennial Stage. In the end, the chess tournament was concluded with an awarding ceremony and the top chess masters will be competing for SCUAA.
